MONTH OF SEPTEMBER: Sports and Festivals

At the beginning of this month, our cook was sick so he could not come for preparing food. Br Abhay was also not feeling well. In the High School every day we are having matches and preparation for the School Day. Our Brothers have been cooking these days, every Brother, a particular food from his State. We enjoyed also in cooking at home for all.

On 3rd after a long holiday, our cook arrived. It rained little, so not more than the expectations.
This month is special for us because our Superior General and the Provincial had a visit to our community. On 7th they arrived to India; it was Sunday, Br Abhay went, and the Superior of Sisters also, to welcome them in the airport. They arrived in time in Ranchi. From there, as they scheduled, they went headed to Bishop’s House of Simdega; that evening they stayed there and sent the Brother home.

On 8th it is the feast day of Nirmala High School –Kurdeg. On that day, only our Brothers had meeting with Bishop and came to our Community. Some of the Brothers were busy in doing works that day because there were some programs in the Parish and later they joined for the lunch, but late around 4.00pm at the High School. Superiors also joined for programs and lunch. That same day, afternoon, we started our meetings.

Next day was the Birthday of Br Raja, and with all the Superiors, we celebrated his birthday. On this day, we started to have personal meetings with them. Next day, evening, Brother General and Provincial, and with them our Superior also, moved to Eluru; from there, Br Efra had to reach Madurai for his visa.

On 12th it was the commemoration of a priest who was killed by fanatics in Banabira. There were many people and the way to go to this place was collapsed, for many school students had come also as pilgrims.  All Brothers went except Br Abhay, who had some responsibility at Kurdeg.  On the return way, our bus, in which we went, broke down. Some of the pilgrims, who came from Kurdeg, were there at least from 3:30 to 7:30 in the same place; they tried various means like pushing the bus for a distance but all ended in failure.

Next day Brothers started some typing works which required Hindi text, that was missing in the laptop, later it was done. Br Abhay is preparing for the retreat of the Primary Schools students coming from different Schools of Kurdeg.

On 17th of this month, there was a propaganda about the electrification of Kurdeg Block. To make the work faster, people of every villages started to cut down some trees for clearing the wires to pass free without any hurdles. On 19th there were some matches, and people came to the High School for that purpose. On Sunday some teams from Parkala and Bahima came to play football, we arranged a team of Brothers, Priests and some boys from Hatta; that day we won all the matches. We all enjoyed this unity in sports.

Some days we, the Brothers, were going for outing by walk or cycling to some villages. We visited St John’s School; it was a good experience to see and to get some information about the school (English Medium).

On 20th Parish Priest celebrated Mass in our Community; he assured that this community Eucharist will be continued every Saturday. This day Brothers of Middle School started Catechism class for kids in Parish; both the schools attended this class. Brothers were happy in taking this lesson.

On 24th Br Abhay was sick yet he did not like to be laid in bed rather he went to School. These days the weather is getting cold, so it is normal to get some sickness. On 27th there was a picnic of staff members in High School, the other two Brothers also had lunch in Kurdeg. At supper we all were gathered in one table.

On 29th the feast of “Nava Khani” which means “The new grain festival.” Many people came though the day was drizzling and weather seemed to be rainy. We are all talking about ‘HudHud’ that will be very soon at our side. That day, many visitors at home were sharing the beaten rice with us as it is custom.

On 30th the DEO of Simdega came to visit the Schools. That day, morning, the three schools went for a rally, shouting some slogans around the villages. We are near to the Dhashra festival of Hindus so in some days we will start our holidays. Some students who got first communion were asked to be in church, even attendance were taken. May it be the beginning of our groups of catechesis?
